(I know just what you are thinking - not another soccer post! grrrroan)
But I felt that it was my duty to the world to make known that sports personalities, in this instance soccer players, and case-in-point specifically a Liverpool playmaker - are capable of having human emotions too. (Though most of the time we just think of them as bionic beings who have super-unnatural speed, strength, with an equally unnatural bank account.)
So Luis Garcia wrote this
letter to his former club, though I greatly suspect that it would have been in his native linga franca - Spanish - and taken him at least 2 years to have penned it in Ingles. One would not have imagined a has-been of any sporting organisation to have expressed such gratitude and appreciation, especially when he/she has matured into 'surplus' strength and has to be released elsewhere (anywhere in fact) so as not to continue wasting the resources for the former employer.
I am reminded of the Chinese proverb - “饮水思源”(think of the source when you drink water), and the many thanks I have to give for all that I am today. =)
